Sleepy Puppy in a Field of Stars Earrings in Sterling Silver and Enamel

An adorable sleepy puppy in a field of stars.

The earrings are made using sterling silver and durable enamel. They measures 3/4 of an inch tall and 5/8ths of an inch wide, with a 1 inch drop including the sterling silver french hook ear wire.

I carved the sterling silver setting from a block of wax, then cast that wax pendant into metal and molded it so I can make multiples. The setting then gets a layer of vitreous enamel (fine glass) and fired at 1400 degrees in a kiln, four separate times, to build strength and color saturation . Finally I take an illustration from my sketchbook, turn it into an enamel screen print, and fire that on the top for a durable, waterproof and vibrant finish. So many steps.
